These are Very Good Plus to Near Fine copies of the Second Printing (October 1933) of the Odyssey issue, first published in December 1932; an attractive early printing of Joyce's masterwork; scarce in the trade, yet still affordable. Two small volumes with maroon cloth bindings and gilt lettering. Clean text; 400 pages and 392 pages (the pagination is continuous). Previous-owner signature on the endpapers. Some slight shelf-rub and a tiny hint of a splay; two small spots on cover of Volume Two. No dustwrappers, as issued. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Second Printing.. Hard Cover. Hamburg: Odyssey, 1932. This is the first German Edition (text in English). In two volumes bound in tan wraps, stamped in red. The only flaw is a diagonal chip to the bottom corner of the first volume, but overall, an acceptable set. "The Definitive Standard Edition" by Stuart Gilbert. Ref.: Slocum and Cahoon 20. With additions and corrections by Stuart Gilbert, this is still considered by many to be the definitive text, a controversial subject among Joyce scholars and on which Quercus offers no opinion. These are, however, very nice copies from this First Edition Thus, the Third Printing (August, 1935). "Ulysses" was still banned, and there is the disclaimer "Not to be introduced into the British Empire or the USA" on the rear boards. Very Good condition, issued in wraps: stiff light gray paper covers with maroon lettering that have less wear and tear than is usually encountered. Creasing to the front corners indicates that the work was actually read; minor wrinkling to the head and foot of the spines; minor foxing, seen on the edges. Size 12mo, 7" tall, 792 pages continuously paginated across both volumes. This edition advertises itself as the "definitive standard edition" The text was revised at Joyce's request by his friend Stuart Gilbert. The base of the rear cover of each volume states "Not to be introduced into the British Empire or the U.S.A." Grey paper covers with red titles to the front covers and spines. Condition good plus, covers are quite clean with a little marking at edges, head and tail of spines slightly worn, hinges a little rubbed, pages edges a bit dust darkened, hinges a little loose, pages slightly toned otherwise clean throughout, no marks or inscriptions. Quite a nice clean set.

One of the most important works of modernist literature. Text in Hungarian. Some wear of dustjackets along edges, chips, volume one with one medium sized at head of spine, volume two with larger chip at bottom back cover, both rubbed. Previous owner's signature on both title pages, rubbed out partially in volume two. Cloth spines slightly faded, including lettering. Djs in fair to good-, bindings in good+, interiors in very good condition.
