London: Chatto & Windus, 1892. Full-Leather. Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Blue boards with double gilt fillet slightly rubbed; the spine is beautifully decorated with gilt tooling, and raised tooled bands. Title and author separated - title in red, author in green distinctive labels. Marbled endpapers. The front boards are inscribed in ornate gilt script "Cumloden Christmas 1893". School award sticker pasted on the inside front board in both volumes. "A new edition with an appendix of events to the end of 1886" An attractive set in excellent condition.

Justin McCarthy (1830 - 1912) was an Irish nationalist and Liberal historian, novelist and politician. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1879 to 1900, taking his seat in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. McCarthy's real bent was towards literature.
