Description:
Catalog of the third Soviet traveling exhibition, organized by the short-lived cooperative "Khudozhnik" (Artist) and the art section (Glaviskusstvo) of the People's Commissariat for Education (Narkompros). The exhibition aimed to capture the "ongoing process of reorientation of the visual arts to the service of the building of Socialism" by presenting over 160 works by acknowledged masters, including posters by Aleksandr Deyneka and Gustav Klutsis, paintings by Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin and graphic works by Mikhail Kupriianov, Alexander Osmerkin, and Vladimir Favorski, among others. Most of the works on exhibit depicted the rapid industrialization of the five-year plan, with some of the artists sent to construction sites prior to the exhibition to capture the process.
