Michaux Vol. 1 front free endpaper absent. Vol. 3 title page nearly detached. There are just a few text pages slightly foxed. The plates are almost all entirely clean and fresh. Light use to cloth; tight and sound. . 8vo,. Illustrated with lovely colored engravings: Vol. I, Plates 1-50; Vol. III, Plates 101-156; Nuttall Vol. II, Plates XLI-LXXX, and Nuttall Vol. III, Plates LXXXI-CXXI. . All four volumes bear the intriguing 19th c. inscription: "Confiscated from John Taylor of Fleetwood Virginia and presented to John Blakeslee by his friend J. Washbourne." Possibly this set has been incomplete since that confiscation.

Stated in the preface to this edition: "The whole of the sheets of the last imprint were destroyed by a fire at the bindery, wither they had been sent for collation; but fortunately the French copper-plates were in another building.
