Edinburgh: Gall & Inglis Circa 1880. Fancy Victorian style binding in original brown blindstamped cloth decorated in gilt on bevelled edge boards. The front cover has a central inset relief in red and gilt depicting a winged angel with lyre. With engravings on steel and illustrated borders. All edges gilt. Light rubbing to corners, front hinge neatly re-glued, contemporary inscription dated 1881 with name on flyleaf. An interesting example of Victorian bookbinding. . Hard Cover.

Felicia Hemans (1793-1835) was an English poet, writing during the late Romantic period. Her first poetry was published in 1808 when she was only fourteen, and attracted the attention of renowned Romantic poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley. Marriage and motherhood did not slow down her literary career, and she published several volumes while raising five sons. She released many commercially successful and highly considered volumes, with the likes of Wordsworth holding her in high regard; her work was particularly popular and inspirational for women. Felicia Dorothea Hemans (1793-1835) was a prolific poet of the Romantic Era. Her most famous poem, Casabianca, about a young boy on a burning ship during battle, in included.
