Octavo, 451 pages, blue cloth with arrows on spine; tips of spine and corners worn, deckle-edged [Ayer 175; Howes K171; Field 883; Bradford 2864; Hubach p. 19; Graff 2340; Piehl, Caxton Club, XI]. Curiously, also listed in Wright's AMERICAN FICTION, vol. 1, no. 1481. "Mrs. Kinzie accompanied her husband on a trip from Ft. Winnebago (Portage), Wisconsin overland via Dixon's Ferry to Chicago. They remained in Chicago two months and then returned. Her narrative of the trip and descriptions of Chicago and the Indian country of northern Illinois are detailed and interesting. The book contains also a famous account of the Chicago massacre in 1812, and sidelights on the Black Hawk War --Buck 230."Limited to only 259 copies {This was the second printing. The first was destroyed by a fire at the printing office}. Illustrated by G.P.A. Healy and others.
