The First UK Printing published by Macmillan, London in 1957. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a little toning to the text block. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition. A hint of rubbing at the spine tips and folds. Lightly toned to the spine and flap edges with a small closed tear to the upper edge. The wrapper artwork looks striking on the removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been inscribed and signed by the author to the front blank end paper. The book has been inscribed to her son Robin Spark twenty years after the publication of this, the author's first book. The inscription reads: 'Robin's book, love from Mum, June 1977 (20 years later)'. Robin Spark, who died aged 78 in 2016, enjoyed a respectable career as an artist in Scotland but was better known as the estranged son of the novelist Muriel Spark, with whom he conducted a running feud until her death in 2006.
