The volume confused on the year 1773, during which trade of staple commodities was prosperous, in comparison to the disastrous year a decade later in 1783, when this work was originally published. Written by John Baker Holroyd, the Earl of Sheffield. Holroyd was a politician who is best remembered as being a close friend and the literary executor of Edward Gibbon, who he met travelling in Europe.
