New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1939. Moses and Monotheism is an in depth examination of the characteristics of monotheistic religion as it developed within both the Jewish and Christian faiths. Freud concludes that the legendary figure of Moses was, in fact, and Egyptian and so brought what would become Judaism to Israel from his native country of Egypt. The book was met with great controversy and "delivered a shock to many of his admirers", according to his contemporary Joseph Campbell. Philosopher Mikkel Borch-Jacobsen wrote that in the book Freud applied to history "the same method of interpretation that he used in the privacy of his office to 'reconstruct' his patients' forgotten and repressed memories.

Signed by Freud A striking portrait of the father of psychoanalysis by German-Jewish artist Hermann Struck, signed in pencil by both sitter and artist in the lower margin, numbered lower right 13/150. Freud praised the work as a flattering but "charming idealization", noting Struck's quiet erasure of signs of encroaching age. Struck (1876-1944) drew this portrait from life in 1914; the etching is monogrammed and dated in the plate lower left "HS [star of David] 1914", following the artist's convention. Signed "Freud", dated February 27, 1927. 150 × 226 mm. Sigmund Freud's signed holograph letter to Frau Wolff regarding the treatment of the recipient's daughter at the Berlin Poliklinik. Freud offers to Mrs. Wolff to recommend her daughter to a physician at the Berlin Poliklinik, and he describes the financial details and the schedule of treatment at the Institute. The Berlin Poliklinik was opened in 1920, after Freud's 1918 proposition to create institutions and out-patient clinics where treatment is free. This is one of Freud's greatest achievements and a frequently overlooked contribution to public health reform. .

Autograph letter with his letterhead written in German, with his clear and bold signature on verso, dated in 1932, to Paul Epstein discussing his new study group of Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles.
Freud expresses that "Analysis certain needs fellowship and the exchange of ideas", and is happy with the fact that Epstein (who was an enthusiastic supporter of psychoanalysis) founded the Psychoanalytic Study Group in Los Angeles.
Size is 5.6 x 9 inches, 1 sheet (written on both sides), central fold, minor crack over the upper border, otherwise in excellent condition.

Book very good condition, cloth is bumped, rubbed, marked and frayed with loss to the top edge of the front board, some foxing to front pages. With tipped-in publisher's note stating that "The Sale of this book is limited to Members of the Medical, Scholastic, Legal, and Clerical professions.
