Simmons has written his address on the front paste down in red ink and has written a 100 word presentation note to poet William Jay Smith on the end paper. Born in Natchez, Miss, Simmons grew up in the deep South and at the time of this publication was the head of the creative writing program at the Univ. of Texas El Paso. Smith is the well know poet and translator who was appointed the nineteenth Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress from 1968 to 1970.
