Philadelphia: Printed by Joseph and William Kite, 50 N. Fourth Street. Very Good. 1845. First Edition. Paperback. 64 pages; Seven individual issues from 1845 and one from 1847 of this American Quaker weekly journal edited by Robert Smith and printed by Joseph and William Kite, 50 N. The leather spine has some c racks and chips including a 4cm chip to the head of the spine. Part of the black spine label is also chipped, leaving only the "END" of the title The Friend. The interior has foxing and tanning through-out, but the text is still quite readable. The hinges are tight with good sewi ng. The articles run the gambit from abolition of slavery, railway an d steamboat traveling to bee cultivation. Also numerous deaths and mar riages are listed. A solid copy of an important Quaker publication. .
