Taussig is credited with creating the foundations of modern trade theory. He graduated from and spent his career as an economist, at Harvard. In this seminal work he shows how the tariff policies had an enormous influence on the direction of U.S. industrial development, and the conflicts caused by intervention. He was a free trade advocate.
