A later work by Canadian pioneer and author Catherine Parr Traill, illustrated with 8 chromolithographs from painting by her neice Agnes Fitzgibbon, daughter of Suzanna Moodie. Heliotype portrait frontis. Bound in green pebbled cloth, quite elaborately decoreated in gilt, AEG. Scattered foxing, some to the plates. Hinges cracked but book is solid. Some wear to the corners, spine tips eroded, gilt somewhat dulled.

Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and nine fine colour lithograph plates, large octavo, pp x, 288, printed within a red-line border, slightly age-toned, all edges gilt, very clean internally, original bevelled cloth with gilt decoration, a little worn and marked, very neatly rebacked with the original spine laid down.. First Edition. Cloth. Very Good.

Maroon coloured coated endpapers. Gold gilt to all edges. Heavily illustrated throughout with seven full page chromolithograph colour plates and a black and white portrait of the author as the frontispiece. Errata page inserted between p. 4 and 5. Some light rubbing along the edges of the boards and a very light spot of soiling to the rear board. Internally clean and tight and in very good to near fine condition. Written by the naturalist and sister of Susanna Moodie, this attractive and thorough book presents a well researched study on Canadian plant life. 1885
