New Orleans: Parish of New Orleans, 1924. 1st Edition. 1st Edition. Signed. First Edition. Truman Capote's original Birth Certificate - issued in the parish of New Orleans & registered the 3rd day of October, 1924 & showing the birth of Truman Streckfus Persons, September 30th, 1924. A unique document. A bit tattered but still quite bright & clean. In 1928, when Truman was 4, the Certificate was given by Capote's mother, Lillie Mae Faulk Persons [soon to be Capote] to her sister, Lucille Faulk Ingram for safekeeping. Lillie Mae was off to New York to make a new life leaving Truman to the care & nurturing of his Monroeville relatives. Outside of the cousins Truman lived with as a child, Lucille Faulk Ingram & her daughter, Cecilia, were his closest kin. As a fledgling writer looking for solitude, it was in the comfort of Lucille Ingram's home that Truman began to write his first novel, Other Voices, Other Rooms.

Description:
New York: Random House,, 1965. Inscribed by the martini-sipper to a gin-spiller First edition, first printing, inscribed by the author on the half-title, "For Hal, who not only ruined this book but wasted his gin. Tru", additionally signed by Capote on the title page and by the recipient on the front free endpaper. Capote's inscription refers to the gin stains affecting the top edge, endpapers, and upper margins of this copy. Capote himself was no stranger to the spirit: the gin martini was for many years his "customary" drink, and during the writing of In Cold Blood, he would start each day with a double martini, and have another with lunch (Clarke, pp. 176, 402). In Cold Blood is one of the most influential "true crime" novels ever written. "Vivid, painstakingly constructed, simultaneously fevered and lingeringly sad... a transfixing read. In 1966, this was a new kind of journalism; now, Capote's revolutionary and compelling approach to narrative non-fiction has been much copied, but rarely… Read More

Description:
New York: Random House, 1958. First edition. Fine/Fine. An exceptionally bright copy. The book is Fine, appearing unread, with sharp corners, clear titles on spine and no ownership markings. Blue top-stain a bit faded. Dust jacket about Fine, without any of the ubiquitous spine toning, but a touch of wear at the spine ends and rubbing on the rear panel. An American classic in literature, it was also the basis for the Oscar-winning film starring Audrey Hepburn in the iconic role of Holly Golightly. Capote's admitted favorite literary creation. Long before Hepburn graced the screen as Holly Golightly, Capote was observing the New York socialites around him and gathering inspiration for the character who would help define his career. "Like every fiction, Holly Golightly was a composite of multiple nonfictions. She took her dreams of society from Truman's own mother, her existential anxieties from Capote himself, but her personality, which seemed so intimately hers, would come from the tight-knit… Read More
