Description:
New York: George H. Doran Company, 1927. First US edition, first printing, two years after the UK first. A collection of short stories which includes "Jeeves takes charge", chronicling the arrival of the famous butler in Bertie Wooster's life. This an exceptional association copy, inscribed on the front free endpaper by Wodehouse to his fellow lyricist, and then current collaborator, Ira Gershwin and his wife Leonore: "To Lea and Ira Gershwin, with every good wish from the author, in memory of all the meals we had in Suite 701 and all the lyrics we wrote together (not to mention the fifty-seven you did when I refused to work). Last day of Rosalie road-tour, Jan. 6 1928. Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Boston, P. G. Wodehouse", signature accompanied by a small stickman wearing top hat.Rosalie was a Flo Ziegfeld-produced musical comedy, developed from "a forty-two page telegram from bibulous Bill McGuire outlining a plot loosely based on the visit to New York of Queen Marie of Rumania... whose backstage politics… Read More

Description:
London: Alston Rivers, Limited, 1909. First edition, first impression. McIlvaine couples this work with the notoriously difficult to find The Globe by the Way Book (1908) as being "among the rarest Wodehousiana". It is exceptionally scarce in this attractive condition. Octavo. Original pictorial wrappers, black and white on a red ground, titles to backstrip in black. Housed in a black quarter morocco solander box by the Chelsea Bindery. Illustrated by C. Harrison. Small ownership signature to front free endpaper, spine very lightly cocked, wrappers a little tanned, slightly rubbed and very lightly creased and chipped at corners, neat closed split at the base of the backstrip where it meets the front wrapper. These minor faults notwithstanding a truly exceptional copy of a fragile little publication designed to be sold cheaply to commuters. McIlvaine A11a.

Description:
London: George Newnes, 1906. [Humour] FIRST EDITION. A significant ASSOCIATION COPY. Octavo (19 x 13cm), pp.x; 312. Complete with four full-page black and white plates by H.M Brock [the frontispiece is positioned within the text, following binder's instructions]. Publisher's stone-coloured cloth, pictorially blocked in green, black and orange. With a warm inscription to the flyleaf from G. Townend to his son, William Townend, dated Novenber 20th 1906. The half title bears the library stamp of Dulwich College with manuscript note 'Presented by W. Townend'. Contents are clean, covers somewhat used with some rubbing to colour design, spine darkened, old tape mark visible at foot. A serviceable example of what is unquestionably one of the rarest Wodehouse titles in first edition, more than redeemed by the remarkable association; formerly the copy of William 'Bill' Townend, lifelong friend of the author and catalyst for this book, the first adult novel by Wodehouse. Townend was the room-mate of PGW… Read More

Description:
London: Herbert Jenkins, 1932. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. (London: Herbert Jenkins 1932). First UK Edition. Publisher's orange boards with black lettering and designs. A former owner's neat - rather faint - name to the front free end-paper otherwise a fine copy. In the RARE D/W priced 7/6 net on green label to the spine. The D/W is the correct first issue with 26 titles by J. S. Fletcher to the front flap and 14 titles to the rear flap by Wyndham Martyn. The D/W is VG indeed with small chips to the spine ends (not affecting any lettering) and with a small chip (with associated creasing) to the bottom/middle of the back panel (not affecting any lettering). The D/W has several, insignificant, short, closed tears which do not detract from what is overall a very nice bright and un-faded copy of one of the scarcer PGW first editions (in our experience) from the 1930's. McIlvaine A47A. Photographs/scans available upon request.

Presentation copy, inscribed by the author four days after publication on the front free endpaper, "To Harrison Fisher with the author's compliments, P. G. Wodehouse. May 16 1910". Fisher (1877-1934) was an American illustrator known for his drawings of women, winning acclaim as the successor to Charles Dana Gibson. His work appeared regularly on the cover of Cosmopolitan Magazine, who published many of Wodehouse's stories, from the early 1900s until his death. Octavo. Original black cloth, titles to spine gilt, front board blocked in green, yellow, and gilt with onlaid oval of a woman's face. Colour frontispiece. 1940s ownership inscription below Wodehouse's inscription on the front free endpaper.
