He left with his publisher an unsorted stack of manuscripts standing chest high. Editor Edward C Aswell then extracted Wolfe's "The Web and the Rock", "You Can't Go Home Again", and "The Hills Beyond". The Asheville NC native's reputation was already well-established with his earlier, "Look Homeward, Angel". Wolfe was considered one of the most important writers of his pre-World War II generation.
