Provenance: the contemporary surname signature 'Benny' is written in ink on the front flyleaf. Reverend James Benny (1824-1910), farmer, lawyer, then 'minister of the Free Presbyterian Church at Morphett Vale' from the early 1850s; an account of his jubilee celebrations appeared in 'The Advertiser', 16 September 1903.
