Description:
Pyongyang.: Foreign Languages Publishing House.. 1976.. Profuse colour illustrations, 311pp. Turquoise ribbon bookmark trifle frayed, original burgundy boards little shelf worn, blind stamped with title in gilt, upper corner slightly bumped, overall a very good copy. 29.5 x 21.5cm. 1.75kg. Text in English. An introduction to North Korea's own special manifestation of socialist realism. Like its related counterparts in the Soviet Union and China, all cultural exploits serve the ideological goals of the Workers' Party of Korea, and are neatly contained within the superstructure of Kim Il Sung's personality cult. Four sections detail the dynamic arts of cinema, opera, music, dance and acrobatics, while a fifth section examines the still arts of painting, prints, sculpture and architecture. Many aesthetic choices have been clearly inspired by the Soviet Union, albeit within a subtly Korean context. .
