A continuation of Dickens's 1870 novel (which lay unfinished at the time of his death) by noted Dickensian and Drood scholar John Cuming Walters (1863-1933).

Reddish brown cloth, titled in gilt on front and spine; plain endpapers; xvi,488pp. A straight copy, rubbed and discolored, front joint cracking and repaired, some soiling to endpapers, else internally clean: Good. Dickens' final novel was left incomplete after his death; James claimed to have finished it by channeling Dickens as a spirit medium. This edition includes prefaces by both the medium and the author (the latter supposedly dictated through James as well). The book drew a fair amount of credulous attention, including praise from Arthur Conan Doyle.

Bush, John Gilbert, Godefroy Durand, Gavarni, Pearson, Bodmer, and many others. Comes with a scarce contemporary Charles Dickens silk bookmark manufactured by Bollans & Co., of Leamington. Covers are worn, front cover partially split at spine, some very minor insect damage to the edges of some of the leaves. Binding is still solid. Internally very clean. At the time of this writing this is the only complete set of The Mystery of Edwin Drood published by Osgood available. ; Folio.
