Description:
Portfolio with 8 original color woodcut prints (each approx. 15" x 22") by Vennekamp, in his own original Pop style with Surrealist undertones, showing erotic imagery in bold, densely colored and compositionally striking formats, including stylized abstractions of genitalia, playfully seductive vignettes, the integration of numbers and letters into the layout, segmented divisions within compositions, etc. Large oblong folio. Contents loose as issued in orig. flexible boards portfolio, with graphically arresting typography on front and rear covers, flaps, etc. N.p, n.d. (Germany ca. 1968). Each print is signed, dated, numbered 2/33, and labeled "Farbholzschnitt" by Vennekamp in pencil. One of 33 copies. A wonderful and spirited work, emblematic of its moment both visually and conceptually, celebrating sexuality and the freedoms unleashed by the upheavals of the late 1960's. Vennekamp was a founding member, along with Uwe Bremer, Arno Waldschmidt, et al, of the Werkstatt Rixdorfer Drucke in Berlin;… Read More

He was affiliated with the avant-garde movement CoBrA and with the Situationist International before beginning what he called his "New Babylon" project. The New Babylon project lasted from 1956 to 1974, and was characterized by Constant's shift to focus primarily on architecture and the urban environment. He envisioned a "world wide city for the future" with collectively-owned land and automated labor leading to more freedom for creativity. This project consisted of models, spacial constructions, maquettes, collages, drawings, and text which all worked together to convey Constant's theories. The project… Read More

Cologne: Buero Olympia/Lidl Sport, 1970. Quarto (29.5 x 21 cm). Original illustrated wrappers; unpaginated (40 pp.), profusely illustrated throughout. Overall very good condition. The first and only issue of the magazine which dealt with the actions of the LIDL group during the 1970 German contemporary art exhibition, "Jetzt: Künste in Deutschland heute." According to articles about one of its members, German Neo-Expressionist painter and sculptor Jörg Immendorff, "LIDL ridiculed elitist art traditions, the cult of creative 'genius', and the precious aesthetic object. The artist countered these hierarchies by assembling a body of pretentious iconograpic motifs drawn from the make-believe world of the child - turtles, dogs, goldfish, playhouses, and polar bears - which he transformed into the 'working material' of what he hoped would be a new functional art form." (Pamela Kort, 1991) DADA-like in theory, LIDL never became an established group but consisted of a variety of artists, including James Lee… Read More

Piacenza: Stampa Gi-Bi, 1973. Octavo (21.3 x 15 cm). Original printed and illustrated side-stapled wrappers; 22 pp. Some light soiling and damp-staining to covers, overall about very good. Limited edition of 600 copies. Emilio Villa's "Flippant Ball-Feel" text was composed and published on the occasion of the "Flippers Chimeri" by Corrado Costa and William Xerra, exhibited in the contemporary gallery of the Mana Market Hall in Rome. Villa (1914-2003) was a poet, visual artist, art critic, and translator. A forerunner of the neo-avant-garde and a precursor to Gruppo 63, he spent time in Brazil in the 1950s and became involved with the Brazilian concrete poetry group before returning to Rome. A student of languages, Villa often wrote in a dialect of Milan rather than what he saw as the problematic and academic "Ytaglya" of the post-war period. He also often inserted words and phrases in ancient Greek, Provençal, French, and other languages into his poems, complicating his texts. His goal at times is… Read More

Description:
Single sheet offset lithograph flyer advertising a Fluxus music performance held at 80 Wooster Street in Soho, on March 24, 1975, with participation from many well-known Fluxus artists, utilizing the harpsichord in new and unusual ways, with graphic design by George Maciunas reproducing an antique engraving. Quarto (8 1/2 x 11 inches). Lithograph on green paper, extremely slight toning along edges. New York (Anthology Film Archives) n.d. (1975). The neglected and largely vacant 19th century loft buildings scattered around Soho were undergoing big changes beginning in the 1960s. George Maciunas saw lots of potential in the lofty buildings, and is quoted as saying, "Normally the artist requires long unbroken spaces with high ceilings and adequate illumination and these needs can only be met by commercial lofts." In 1967, through his Fluxhouse Cooperatives, Inc., Maciunas purchased Nos. 80-82 Wooster Street from the Miller Paper Company family and created Soho's first artists' co-op on the upper floors,… Read More
