[Moscow: Tipo-lit. T-va I. N. Kushnerev i Ko, 1902. Oblong folio ( 35 × 26 cm). Original pebbled brown calf with gilt title to front board; silk moire pastedowns and flaps; single leaf with title to recto and table of contents to verso, text pamphlet of 9, [1] p. and [35] leaves of photolithographs to rectos. Corners rubbed; occasional light toning and soil to leaves; stamp of the library of the second Zaamurskii railway battalion of the Frontier Guard; still good to very good. Scarce complete set of photolithographic reproductions of artworks held by the Russian Hermitage in St. Petersburg, chosen to document various etaps in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. Among the scenes chosen are the attack of Lieutenant NIkolai Skrydlov on an Ottoman monitor on the Danube, Tsar Alexander II's arrival at Ploiești, the capture of Lovcha, and the capture of the Turkish steamer Mercene. Among the artists who painted these and other scenes are: A. Bogoliubov, A. Dmitriev-Orenburgskii, Henry Manizer, A. Kivshenko, P. Lagorio. The pamphlet provides historical contexts for many of the scenes depicted.

Formerly part of the library of the Zaamurskii Border Guard, which replaced the Defence Guard (Okhrannaia strazha) as the primary authority protecting the Chinese Eastern Railroad. It "was formed to act as a defender of the CER and as a Russian military force in northeastern China (see Ol'ga M. Bakich, Harbin Russian Imprints, p. 5).
