Detroit: Helm, Incorporated, for Ford Motor Co, 1979. Paperback. 136p., 5x8 inches, illustrated with diagrams and tables, worn booklet in stapled rubbed pictorial wraps. Former owner used this item frequently, to judge by the abundant external grime and oil, the slightly less abundant internal grime and oil, and the severely rubbed covers. Good luck with that truck of yours.

Two mimeographed 8.5x14 inch sheets stapled at corner, pen note on the blank verso stating that it was from the Chevrolet plant on Delevan Avenue in Buffalo; horizontal fold crease, paper toned. Local union news, including a note that the plant's cafeteria workers had been organized.

Event program for the annual contest and celebration of the gay car club.

Detroit: Auto Workers United to Fight, 1976. 4p, 11 x 15.5 inches, folded tabloid, closed tear at right edge of the fold. Part of 1976 UAW contract effort that took a harder line than the union's leadership; affiliated with the Revolutionary Communist Party.

San Francisco: Harr Wagner Publishing Company, 1921. xxv, 120p., scattered b&w period photography, hardbound 8x5.5 inch blue cloth boards titled black. Cloth has picked up handling soil, wear to rims and a small stain at the head; text, on semi-glazed paperstock is excellent except for a binder's error, namely that the lower edge is insufficiently trimmed so many leaves must be opened after the manner of continental book production. A good-only copy.

Broadside. 12x18 inch broadside, folded into quarters, paper toned, short split at the center of the horizontal fold. "Coughlin" has been penciled in upper left corner. Promotion of a newly established Coughlinite union more favorable to Detroit's auto makers than the UAW. "It is evident that here in Michigan there is dire need for a labor union based upon Christian principles of social justice. It is evident that capital cannot do without labor, nor can labor do without capital. It is likewise, evident that nothing can be done for economic peace by arraying class against class. Therefore, there is demanded this new labor union in which the rights, duties and responsibilities of capital and the rights, duties and responsibilities of labor are mutually recognized.".

Milano: Stamperia Mondaini [for] Atlantic Refining Company of Italy-Genova, 1920. Map. Fourteen (14) maps in colors with onlay routings in red, numbered #40-53 consecutively. Each map measures 17x10.5 inches, all are bent (not creased) in half nesting together, this bundle enclosed in a printed sur-folder. Enclosing folder has a key to map-reading and a huge Atlantic Oil notice on one side, and ads for auto supplies and refreshments on the other. The maps are a little dust-soiled but sound, the folder edgeworn but serviceable. As to dating, no earlier than 1925 per a textual allusion to a legal convention.

Glendale, CA: Wayne A. Wonacott, Franklin Press, 1938. Pamphlet. [4], 5, [1], 6-12, [1], 13-17, [1], 18-22, [1], 23-28, [4]p., illustrations, wraps. 8.75 x 6 in. Very Good. Biography and memorial to the midget car racer who died at age 23 in an accident in June 1937. Includes excerpts from newspaper articles, passages Betteridge underlined in his Bible, and selections from his scrapbook. Betteridge participated in the construction of the first midget auto racers and competed in the earliest races, held on dry lake beds in southern California. He was inducted into the Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 2002. WorldCat reports only one location (October 2023).

Berkeley: Labyris Employees Association, 1982. Handbill. 8.5x11 inch handbill using cartoons to illustrate the perspective of striking mechanics from the feminist auto repair shop Labyris, accusing the shop of exploiting workers and replacing them with scabs. Very good. The Employees Association gives a Berkeley PO box, but the shop was in San Francisco. Depicts one of the owners proclaiming "No male boss will oppress the women working here. We'll do it ourselves." Concludes with a dissatisfied customer complaining that "Ever since I took my car to those scab mechanics it pulls really hard to the right!" Asks the reader to boycott Labyris and to donate to the Starving Mechanics Fund.
