Peasant life amongst Catholic serfs under big thumbs: indifferent landholders and doctrinaire clergy. Subject immigrated to US in 1907. Author Harris, granddaughter, wrote first half in Madison, was halted by ill health and holocaust overwhelm, was able to proceed and complete the story after relocating.

An ex library copy with an ugly pocket and a titlepage rubberstamp, both overstamped "Withdrawn" (top edge also stamped), these the only damage to the book itself, which has entirely presentable cover and text; while the dj spine panel is a little faded with an inconspicuous label at the heel. Reading copy, structurally very good. Apparently a useful item unaccountably scarce, to judge by prices asked. Twayne's Rulers and statesmen of the world series, 7.

Patton of Oakland, to one Ted, both of whom deeply interested in Ira Aldridge.
