New York: Communist Political Association, 1942. Pamphlet. 23p., worn and soiled stapled wraps showing tears to top and bottom of spine fold, "Wartime" in ink near top of front cover. "An argument by a Communist member of the New York City Council in favor of keeping the five-cent fare on the New York subways. (This battle helped to break Michael Quill, head of the Transport Workers Union, and his organization away from the Party line, since the union supported the increase in order to win its wage demands.) *Seidman C3.

New York: The Propeller Club of the United States, sponsoring agency, 1959. 200, 188p., coated paperstock with numerous portrait, site and equipment photos, softbound in 11x7.7 inch glossy wraps. Slight edgewear, free of any markings, both copies very good. Two items together. Conferences held respectively in Detroit (32nd Annual) and San Francisco (33rd Annual).

Toledo, OH: Self-published by the author, 1895. Hardcover. vi, 90p., cloth-covered boards, 6x9 inches, frontis. portrait of Caulkins, diagrams, boards edgeworn and frayed at corners, endpapers and fore-edge lightly foxed, pencil scribble on front pastedown endpaper, else very good condition with author's rubberstamp on front pastedown endpaper. Caulkins, who identifies himself on the title page as "discoverer of the circulation of the nerves and inventor of the electro-magnetic circular power," was an Ohio physician. He writes in the preface that this work is "a concise description of a new air-ship which the author believes will be the finally accepted plan of successful aërial navigation.

Hawthorne Victoria: Self-published by the author, 1949. Paperback. 191p., not illustrated per se, but the numerous advertisements provide visuals, a small softbound in 7x5 inch nicely designed wraps. Lower corner-tip has sustained a light bump that affects all leaves, terminal leaf sports an inch-square seller's fiche (Perkins Oriental Books of Pasadena CA), item is otherwise quite sound and clean, and otherwise unmarked. A very good copy. We gather from another entry on the net, that the 1949 annual may have been a one-fer, never again repeated, although editor/publisher Brogden helmed other similar items.

[Bay Area, CA]: npub, 1970. Handbill. 8.5x11 inch handbill; date penned on corner, else very good. Community group committed to prevent the building of the southern bay crossing from Hunters Points to Bay Farm Island.

San Francisco: Bay Area Electric Railroad Association, 1962. 4p., 8.5x11 inch newsletter, fold crease, one inch split at the fold on both sides. This issue celebrates 50 years of MUNI.

Vancouver: Committee of Progressive Electors, 1971. 24p., staplebound pamphlet, 5.5x8.5 inches, very good but for a promotional sticker applied to the cover (the original title in smaller text at upper right was apparently considered too obscure). Rankin was a local alderman.

Oakland: California Department of Transportation District 04, 2002. various pagination [approx 96 pages] 8.5x11 inches, all pages printed recto-only, includes plans, photos (some color), maps (color), charts, tables, very good reports in spiral-bound velo and clear plastic covers. Extensive report gathered by archaeologist for the William Self Associates from October 1999-January 2000 evaluating improvements to bridges and piers. Also what seems an exhaustive survey of sunken "debris fields", leftover scrap from dumping and abandoned projects.

Oakland: Black Panther Party, 1972. Newspaper. 16p.. plus 4 page supplement; tabloid newspaper, horizontal fold, some toning. Cover story marks the second anniversary of Jonathan Jackson's armed invasion of the Marin County Courthouse to demand the Soledad Brothers' release from prison. The supplement attacks Bay Area Rapid Transit as an expensive boondoggle of no use to Black residents. The back cover is a poster by Malik.

[Glasgow]: Solidarity, 1966. 9p., mimeographed sheets stapled at left, 8x10 inches, staples rusting, front cover detached but present. Printed by Solidarity for the organization of public bus drivers.

Rio Vista Junction, CA: Bay Area Electric Railroad Association, n.d.. 24p., staplebound 8.5x11 inch booklet, black and white photos. Illustrates historic trains and streetcars on display at the museum in Solano County, with explanatory text.

San Diego: Citizens for Rail California, 1980. ii, 18p., wraps, 8.5x11 inches, slightly musty. Propasals for alternate equipment and proposed route changes to make a mass transit rail network possible in California.

Vancouver: Citizens Council on Civic Development, 1969. Pamphlet. 2p. + 3p. + [appendix A, 8p., + appendix B, 2p], 8.8x11 inch sheets staplebound; minor foxing on front page, corners slightly curling from shelfwear, else very good.

San Francisco: Concerned Muni Drivers; San Francisco General Hospital Fight Back; with the support of the May 1st Workers Organization and Unemployed Workers Organizing Committee, 1976. 8.5x14 inch handbill, folded into quarters, receipt date penned in corner. In support of MUNI drivers showing solidarity with striking craft workers in San Francisco. The reverse reprints a statement from the California Labor Federation.

South Bend, IN: Mercedes-Benz Sales Inc, 1961. Pamphlet. 8p., illustrations, staplebound wraps. 8 x 5.5 in. Very Good. Trivia on car racing, global scope of the Mercedes-Benz concern ("sold in 143 countries"), and "academically correct pronunciation" of the firm's name.

San Francisco: Dexter Music Co. / the Citizens Committee, 1983. Sheet_music. Large folio leaf of alkaline paperstock folded to make a 4p self-wraps sheet music item with lyrics and musical notation; colorphoto cover, the two-page gargle, back-cover photo of Spinosa with spot-color decoration. A very good copy with just a little crimping of one corner, better hurry! Easily inferior to "Left My Heart in.." although sporting one excellent line: "When you arrive at Bush / you may have to give the car a push." An updated version might appropriate this one: "Where the little shopping carts / push half inside the bars.." then something about panhandling patrons.

Albany: C. Van Benthuysen, 1857. Hardcover. NB, this is the "Drawings" part of the commission report, not the report itself. Hardbound in 9.5x5.5 diced brown cloth boards, lettered gilt and panelled in blind, this casing very worn with the cloth lifting away in small areas. Front hinge is still sound but the cover feels at risk with a half-inch chip at the head; rear hinge is strong and clean with two clean blanks. Text consists of numerous line-engraved plates, all of them folding out laterally except for a couple of singleton leaves with presswork on tawny tint-blocks, and the further exception of two folded maps, only one of which is truly large, i.e. the "State of New York"; this latter map is onlaid with three colors that show rail lines that are completed, ones under construction, and those proposed.
