About This Item

Putney, VT: n.pub, 1970. Pamphlet. [24p.] illustrated publication in tabloid newspaper format; unknown if part of a series. We find no such publication in OCLC as of September 2022. Evenly toned, horizontal fold, otherwise very good. Cover lists recent student protests around the world, and has a piece on guns that begins: "Scared of guns? What else terrifies you? How about a pencil sharpener, a coffee cup, maybe a paring knife. Depends a lot on how you think about them, doesn't it? But guns in this country mean the violence and hate that's all around us. Gun racks in the rear windows of pick-up trucks, not only in racist Mississippi, right here in Vermont. The endless killing and murdering in Vietnam, the pistols and shot guns the pigs use to keep the people from coming together and understanding that they control their own lives. ... For us guns are a hard reality. To be afraid of guns is to be afraid of the brutal power in this country that controls us, and so long as the people fear the pigs' guns, we shall remain unable to stand. But, if we look about us and feel the real strengths of those we love, and join together, the gun will be that of the REVOLUTION." . Includes sections on the Black Panthers, serving the people with a free auto repair garage, ecology, opposition to the Vietnam War and its expansion into Cambodia, Native American resistance, and more. The title comes from e.e. cummings's lines, "I don't want to frighten you / but they mean to kill us all.
