Washington City: Published Annually by Davis & Force, 1822. 16mo, roan-backed marbled boards (leather backed hardcover), [viii], [13]-260 pp. Four plates (2 plans, 2 tables), 2 fold-out tables. Sabin 25056. In addition to a list of representatives and laws, it includes (among other things) a list of Customs Officials, Revenue amounts and sources, and a complete list of Army and Naval officers with the rank and present duty station of each. Ex-library copy bearing a bookplate, and two small stamps, one of which is a withdrawal; front hinge repaired with paper tape.

Sextodecimo (6.75" x 4"), [9] & 14-296 pages plus 4 leaves of plates (2 folding) & 5 folding tables, with additional illustrations in text. Publisher's marbled paper over boards backed in gilt-lettered black roan.
Binding with edge wear & rubbing (including small losses), hinges started (still secure), two plates partially split at the folds (now reinforced with archival tissue on the verso), some tattering, toned & foxed, otherwise Good or better & still quite useful.
Published annually between 1820 & 1836, this the fourth volume of Peter Force's vast compendium of statistics providing one of the best snapshots of early American government.

This book is in good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine, edges and corner of the cover. There is some dog-earring on the right corner pages of the book. The pages are white, crisp and clear of any markings. "This is a history of the visual arts produced in the geographical area that now constitutes the United States. Such a book is difficult to title. A History of United States Art sounds awkward and logically might even be construed to exclude the arts of the colonial period. This book is in good condition. There is a lot of wear on the front, back, spine and edges of the cover boards. There is also a substantial amount of staining on the cover boards. This book has blue cloth with navy and red text and design. Tipped plate of American flag on center of front board. Interior tanning heavily from age and book has light warping from age and moisture. Has small bookworm hole affecting the upper right corner of pages 23- 83, completely out of the way of any text and only about 1/2 inch in depth. Missing page corner as depicted, affecting the first front illustration page, affects a small amount of caption text, and the edges of 2 photos. Suitable for gifting. 163 pages. The 25 authors of this book were volunteers in the first Peace Corps rural community development project in Africa: Sierra Leone, 1965-67. They are also the first group to tell a collective story of Peace Corps volunteers, anywhere. The Peace Corps was in its infancy then, and memories of John Kennedy were strong among the young volunteers. Sierra Leone was also in its infancy in the first few years after independence, before military coups and tribal warfare became common. The authors forthrightly recount their feelings of loneliness and isolation, and their frightening experiences with secret societies and witchcraft, but their uniquely optimistic "can-do" American attitude brought most through a great life experience.
