An engaging set of four works for brass and percussion, by the quintessential American "nationalist" composer, Ernst Bacon (1898-1990) - printed from his hand-manuscripts (date of composition/compilation estimated). CONTENTS: I - Lent e grave; II - Tempo di Menuetto (a study in symmetric inversion); III - Lazy but steady; IV - Moderato. [Note: page numbers are somewhat confused, since this grouping of brass pieces seems to have been assembled from different sources.] The Ernst Bacon Society gives the title as "Four Octettes for Brass - 2 trumpets, 2 horns, 2 trombones, tuba and percussion "] 16 large pages. CONDITION: A bright, solid, unmarked copy with moderate shelf-wear, some light cover creasing, and a couple cracks in the plastic comb binder. This attractive copy is now in a clear, protective polypropylene bag with archival backing board.

A fascinating and adventurous brass work in three movements by this gifted former-Soviet composer (born in 1957) now living in Israel. Score indications are in Russian, English, and (where universal) Italian. The composer asks for an interesting stage set-up, with the musicians in four corners, facing away from the center. Additionally, near the end, one finds quotations from the Shostakovich Second Symphony and three brief speaking lines! 30 pages. CONDITION: a securely bound copy with pristine score pages, showing light shelf-wear. It is unmarkd but for a cataloguing number (?) in the lower left corner of the back cover. This exceedingly scarce, attractive copy is now in a clear, protective polypropylene bag with backing board.
