A Queen's Town library copy with all labels removed and most numbers and stamps. 2 sheets of the index have been carelessly torn. Gilt title on spine and black titles and illustration on front cover. Numerous b&w photos in text and some plates, which have not been individually checked. Map with col lines at rear is untouched. All pages bright and white with no foxing making the book appear to have been unread. Please expect extra overseas postage.

Slight wear at head and tail; 5 small spots where water has fallen on front cover; library copy with all stamps etc removed with the exception of a gilt stamp, Graaff Reinet, on spine and a library number on verso of title p. Pages not foxed, completely un-read and bright. Please expect some extra postage overseas. A chronicle of incredible hardship born by the soldiery and huge bravery accompanied by lamentable incompetence.

"Redan Windham" is the title on spine (slightly tarnished) & front cover. It is unclear whether this publisher or Heinemann can claim the "true " first. Front cover has a medallion in gilt (which is somewhat tarnished) with C A W's battle honours. Spine is faded and worn at head and tail - now reinforced in the channel. 4 corners slightly worn but repaired. Top edge gilt but somewhat faded. 1 sheet of ads, frontis with tissue guard. A Library copy (Willowmore)with all signs except one stamp removed.

Dust jacket has 85mm closed tear with concomitant creasing; other tears 27, 15, 8, 6mm; closed chips 50x5mm; frittered at head & tail; N B: all faults restored.
