Unread Very Fine condition in Fine, original chemise with light tanning and small at rear joint in publisher's slipcase (panels separated). Limited edition of 160 copies on hand-made paper. Bound in limp vellum with gilt lettering and decoration on front cover, cloth ties present. Top edges gilt. Rather scarce in this condition and hard to find with original chemise; Printed at the Gilliss Press from type case specially for this book, patterned after the traditional old character first used by Wynkyn de Worde in his original 1496 edition. With introductory essay by William Loring Andrews, 1837-1920.The Treatyse is often described as the first known English essay on fishing as a sport ; Wood block print; 8vo; [xii], lxxxvi, [x] pages .

1880 1st ed Juliana Berners Book of Saint Albans FISHING Angling Compleat AnglerA fine reissue of the first English book on angling!
Juliana Berners was an early 15th-century English writer who is known for her works on English heraldry and sports. Most notably, she wrote treatises on fishing, hunting, and hawking. Originally known as 'Book of Saint Albans', this treatise was immensely popular, so much so that Berners added the section on fishing later. Entitled 'Treatyse of Fysshynge with an Angle', this section offers practical advice for fishing and is known to have been the primary source for Isaak Walton's treatise on fishing 'The Compleat Angler'.
This 1880 printing is the first issue of the photographic facsimile edition published in London. It should be noted that this facsimile edition is considered "one of the best facsimiles ever executed" by Westwood & Satchell.
