The Tale of Sandy Chipmunk

By Bailey, Arthur Scott

NY: Grosset & Dunlap, 1916. Book. Good. Hardcover. 5th or later Edition. Perhaps the cutest book in our inventory. Of course as we all know, as a reprint, it is not as collectable as we might hope. Lots of mild age appropriate wear, but sound in it's 100 year old way..

The Golden Picture Story Book

By Dodge Publishing, NY

NY: Dodge, 1914. Book. Good-. Hardcover. 2nd Edition. No author listed, publishing history very sketchy. 1900? Maybe, seems about right. I suspect this is a British produced text of Blackie(GB) original, same title, it does say printed in GB last page, but, Dodge NY copyright page, no date. Content/illustrators imply it was originally GB product. Golden board edges are quite chippy, luckily the interior text, but for the occasional smudge is unmarked, no crayon no pencil. Boards have the odd ink spot. NOTE: addl research shows as follows: the Blackie appeared in GB as late as 1913, the US product, 1914. This one? Possible. . . This fits better with the ages of the illustrators. The text is done in part by noted British book designer Alice Talwin Morris (nee Marsh), while she is not credited her name and initials appear regularly. Also illustrations by Angusine Macgregor and Lillian Govey are present if only sprinkled through the book. Fortunately they signed some of theirs, given the style I theorize that Macgregor may have done some of the unsigned illustrated content. Work (B & W) by May Gladwin, Ethel Parkinson and Harry B. Neilson is also present. I will try to shoot some of the Macgregor and Govey for the books listing. It is worth noting that some of the content reflects the racial attitudes of a less enlghtened era, Binding sound. It should be noted that the book does not meet Mcbride's 1st statement for Dodge, though this might be nearly moot as the Great Britain version is almost surely prior..

The Boy Scout Encyclopedia

By Grant, Bruce

NY: Rand McNally, 1952. Book. Illus. by Fiore and Jackie Mastri. Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Book and jacket both splendid. Jacket though price clipped has been preserved for years in a clear mylar wrapper, which has eliminated all but a hint of edge age browning. I gently erased a sales price (1st endsheet) and tiny numbercode (last pastedown) and the resulting tiny erasures are barely visible. Original bookstore sales label last pastedown. This book has the R/M Edition statement (1952) under which is an 'A'. While it does not match The McBrides statement precisely the A seems to lock down its status as the 1st appearance. Not utterly flawless but nearly so. A hint of bindery darkening at first/ last gutters, as made. Will be stored in acid free mylar now. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Beaver Trail

By Kelly, Regina Z.

NY: Lothrop, Lee & Shepard, 1955. Book. Illus. by Carl S. Junge. Good. Cloth Bound. 1st Edition. A possibly ex-library, jacketed (clipped) hardcover of this YA novel, apparently quite scarce and ditto for its Jkt. Book is fairly sound, but I noticed a bit of smudge and a page (161) with trace waviness. The jkt. has a good bit of edge chip, some smudge, but largely OK in its wrapper. Done in bright red, and therefore prone to light fade, but sharp. Owner name penned FEP, 237 pages. X-lib. scars minimal. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Elementary History of the Unted States

By Gordy, Wilbur F.

NY: Scribners, 1913. Book. Good. Cloth Bound. 5th or later Edition. Much browned with age but happily, no pages missing, no notable chips or tears. Name pencilled/paper clip mark 1st endsheet. Text much, much, thumbed. Cloth covers look 100 years old, darkened, worn but sound. Binding OK. A, perhaps predictably, sanitized grade school history of the nation, the trouble areas/ the Mexican War/ Reservation policy/ the ' liberation' of Cuba and The Philippines get the treatment one might expect. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Violet For Bonaparte

By Trease, Geoffrey

London: Macmillan, 1976. Book. Very Good-. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Trease wrote many YA historical novels. This is 1st UK, the books sole 'flaws' are a trace of abrasion upper rt. corner (pencil price erasure?) 1st endsheet an a tiny faint stain, nearly invisible, opposite. Frankly, the sheet looked utterly untouched on my 1st glance. Jacket has apparently been in mylar forever, bright and newish. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. The Story Of Annie Oakley

By Collier, Edmund

NY: Grosset & Dunlap, 1956. Book. Very Good-. Hardcover. 5th or later Edition. Ah, the limits of the new methods. We call this a 5th or later under 'attributes' but, this is of course wrong. G&D is almost always a reprint house prior to '60. Please note, if you ever see a pre 60 G&D product (with the sole exception I know of, of the Stratemeyer juveniles) called a first edition this indicates a recent, flexible redefining of the term. . . This book, a childs or YA life of the sharpshooter, is decent, lightly handled, unmarked hardcover. Jacket is quite rough, short tears, chips, edgeworn, will ship in new mylar and should look OK. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Books listed by Brass Dolphin are so described, and graded, using the strict, traditional standards. For this reason, we have virtually zero returns.*.

Takao and Grandfather's Sword

By Uchida, Yoshiko

NY: Harcourt, Brace, 1958. Book. VG-. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Book's sole actual 'flaw' is the text edge browning to which inexpensively made children's books from this era seem prone. The Quest Of The Missing Map early printing

By Keene, Carolyn

NY: Grosset & Dunlap, 1942. Book. Very Good-. Hardcover. Orange Nancy on the pre-tweed solid blue covers, orange silhouete endsheets. P.C.J. shows 19 ND (QMM #19 last) 12 DG rear flap, 15 JB back panel. We are using an older Farah whose early 40s listings seem not to match this item perfectly, suspect we'd have a 1943A if it appeared. Guide goes from 1942-1943 to 1943B with no pcj jacketed version showing the correct particulars, for example there are no post-text cross-promotion ads in the book. Also while no wartime condition notice appears, paper has the mild overall brownishness of the era. Jacket is in acid free mylar wrapper (closed with acid free tape) and is distressed. While color is excellent and edgwear is minimal, the jacket has major front panel ripping and chipping, please note: this is not likely to show in the books foto. nancy head has abrasion just below hairline. Plain frontispiece, not glossy. Text unmarked, no cocking or undue board abrasion. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. The Clue Of The Velvet Mask 1st Edition

By Keene, Carolyn

NY: Grosset & Dunlap, 1953. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Blue tweed boards, Nancy blue silhouette endsheets (not digger)- flap lists 30 titles with Velvet Mask last. Dark blue Nancy front board, wraparound jacket w/ Nancy holding magnifying glass on spine. Velvet Mask is also last listed last in books interior summary. Secret of the Jade Ring (Dana) and Forbidden Chest (Bolton) are final listed titles on back flap and back panel respectively. 211 pages. 2 odd flaws are noted. The verso of the 2nd endsheet had what I take to be a production roller mark, pale brownish, mild, in attempting to lightly erase (art gum) the soft text experienced a hint of abrasion. This is the blank sheet prior to the 1/2 title page. Parenthetically, only the 2nd time in 20 years I have experienced this. . . Additionally, I surmise that the last endsheet was inadvertently glued at its forward extremity to the paste down. The PD is the fixed final sheet. I was able to dislodge it with much gentle effort. It has left a tiny imperfection at the upper edge of the last endsheet. I will attempt to fotogaf these 2 issues along with book and jacket when time permits. Book seems utterly straight to me, uncocked, unbumped, no notable board edge abrasion. Text bright, unmarked, no creases or dogearing. Jacket has a hint of edge wear, micro-chip at spine, no notable tears, two 1/4" tears at top back panel and this back panel does have some scuff, will ship in new mylar wrapper, as do all of our jacketed books. Not xlibrary, 9595 at top front flap. Copyright page says 1953. PLEASE NOTE: this item matches Farah #1953A(1) format 14 (end papers #4) in all particulars as per our guide. Please order media mail shipping, we will ship (domestically) padded, boxed, insured, priority at our expense. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Books listed by Brass Dolphin are so described, and graded, using the strict, traditional standards. For this reason, we have virtually zero returns.*.
