Full black leather boards with stamped gilt titling. The boards are worn, scuffed, marked all about. The titling is bold. The spine has much wear to the head and the foot. Previous owner signature on the frontispage. The frontis and end papers are tanned. The guttering along the frontis page is a little cracked - but the security of the book is unaffected. The papertrims have very light storage marks. The pages have scant evidence of use. There are some shallow handling/ printing waves. Stamped gilt borders and titling on the front board. Blind stamped borders on the back board. Both boards and spine are much worn, scuffed, scratched, rubbed, marked from handling, storage. Nonetheless, the boards are steady, sure. The guttering along the frontispage is cracked. The general security of the book is unaffected. There are mild, expected indications of the passing of the years. Some pages are lightly tanned about the edges. Not only was Jameson, known for his arrogance and recklessness, caught up in the dissembling of the Expedition, but he was embroiled in a shocking scandal where he was accused of buying a young girl (for six handkerchiefs) in order to sketch her being eaten in a cannibalistic rite! This book was published by his widow in an attempt to clear his name. The boards of this copy have some wear about all edges and seams, some marks, some stains from handling and storage.
