Minneapolis, MN: CURA Center for Urban and Regional Affairs, University of Minnesota, 1990. Wrappers. Very Good. 4to. Southeast Asian Refugee Studies, Occasional Papers, Number Nine. 191 pp., illus. In Pahawh Hmong, Hmong Romanized Popular Alphabet (White Hmong), and English translation printed on the same page. Shong Lue Yang (1929-1971) devised the Pahawh Hmong writing system and was the Messianic figure at the center of a spiritual movement. The Introduction describes the present volume as a supplemental text to the same authors' Mother of Writing: The Origins and Development of a Hmong Messianic Script, published the same year by University of Chicago Press. Head of spine bumped; wrappers handled, with gentle crease and a couple of faint finger marks on front, several small faint stains on back, and bumped at edges and corners; scattered light pencil marks in English text have been erased but remain faintly visible on some pages.
