By Johnson, Sir William

Albany, NY: University of the State of New York, 1921. set of 14 volumes complete, original issue, blue cloth, condition ranges from very good to fine, all are clean, tight and free of markings. Sir William Johnson (1715-1774) was the Superintendent-General of Indian Affairs for the Northern Department of British America and possessed estates lining the then frontier of America in the Mohawk River Valley of New York. The papers were transcribed and published volume by volume over a 54-year interval from 1921 ending with the completion of the master subject-nominal index (vol 14) in 1965, a fact accounting for the scarcity of complete sets. They are rich in pre-revolutionary documentation relating to early trade, settlement, immigration and Indian affairs. Many of the originals were lost in the 1911 fire of the New York State Library.. hardcover. Very Good.
