Lelooska (meaning 'He who cuts against wood with a knife"), was adopted by the Nez Pierce & lived as a member of the Cherokee tribe living in Ariel, WA, when this book was published. He died in 1996. He dedicated his life to preserving the heritage of his people along with that of the other seven major Northwest Coast Native American Indian nations.
