London: Richard Bentley, 1837. The first five volumes of this periodical, edited by Charles Dickens, contain the entirety of Oliver Twist in its first printing, The bindings, in red half-leather, is quite rubbed at the hinges in four of the volumes but still quite sound. However in volume 5 the front cover and spine is detached, though present. The text throughout is generally tight and clean, but many of the illustration plates are foxed, to a varying degree, though I've seen worse, Fairly scarce collectable item that will benefit from restoration. Paris: Chez Guillaume-François de Bure le Jeune, 1763. presumed original calf binding, lower third of spine and label missing, hinges cracked but binding cords still holding all together, library stamps of Dublin religious institution library on title page and a couple of other early pages, discolouring from old damp affecting margins near lower spine, not into text, otherwise clean and sound, text block generally tight and sound, 603 pages. A pioneering work, first of several volumes, it was the first to identify and describe the Gutenberg Bible. Text is in French.. First Edition. Full-Leather. Cambridge: The Author, 1738. full calf binding, small (1cm) cracks to hinges at spine heads, leather on boards scuffed where the books, left too long on the shelves, had become stuck to each other (see photos), some mild soiling on title pages, but text otherwise clean and tight throughout, illustrated with 83 folding engraved plates. Stella e Figli,, 1828. two volumes in one, bound in full calf, five raised bands on spine, gilt tooled, boards with some scuffing and shelf wear, foxing in text affecting mainly a few leaves in volume 1. Volume 2, which is by Defendete only, deals with ne' Tempi Municipali. Pagination 267, 214. Interesting association copy. There is the signature of G. N. Count Plunkett (father of 1916 Proclamation signatory Joseph Mary Plunkett) on the front pastedown, dated 1910. Also included is a handwritten letter to a colleague from Count Plunkett, dealing with some matters when he was employed in the National Museum, Kildare St. Nice tight copy.. First Edition. Vienna: Verlag der Wiener Schachzeitung, 1924. The original six parts in recent cloth binding. 384 pages, Formerly owned by Irish chess champion J. J. O'Hanlon, some of the pages in the loose parts had become creased and with small tears, and binding seemed the best way to preserve the text. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. London: Longman, Brown, Green and Longmans, 1855. 'New edition, thoroughly revised, with extensive additions,' recently rebound in maroon cloth with paper spine label, pagination is continuous from the missing volume 1, namely, vi, 225-595. piece torn from final leaf, though with no loss of text, illustrations are of surgical and dental equipment. There are several marginal comments, presumably contemporary, by a previous owner, including a rather forceful 'ROT' across a section on diabetes. Some occasional soiling in the text. Introductory pages have an advert for Percivall's Patent Horse Sandal, and for some other books on horses by the author. Rare - no other 19th century copy online at time of posting.. New Edition. Robinson, 1800. three volumes, uniformly bound in plain half-calf and marbled paper boards, no raised bands, simple gilt ruled decoration on spines (see photos), some wear, as might be expected, at spine ends, joints and corners, but still quite sound, text blocks clean and sound throughout, edges marbled; pagination xxiii, 591; xxviii, 473, six-page contents list for vol. 3 (to be sold separately), included at rear of vol. 2; Vol 3: lvi, errata folio, 528pp. There are illustrations in vols. 1 and 2, but not in vol. 3. damaged copy in old full calf, much worn, spine label illegible, lacks endpapers and title page, portion at top of the contents page torn off, text otherwise complete, reasonably clean and tight, with one folding diagram, 298 pages, some original owner inscriptions on inside covers and last page of index, owner's name and address at start of first chapter. Rare. I think this is likely the first Irish printing of 1773, given the owner's Dublin address. Google books reproduces the second London edition of 1778, which is enlarged to 336 pages, and with an appendix, which is not mentioned in this copy.. First Edition. Full-Leather. Paris: Jacques Estienne, 1753. 1753 and 1754 (last few volumes), full calf bindings in traditional French style. Extra volume is due to vol. 11 being published as part 1 and part 2. Bindings are sound and tight, no weak hinges or such, Slight damage to top of spines in volumes 1 and 6. There is scuffing damage to the leather on some boards. This is due to the library having been unused for about two centuries, and many of the volumes were adhering to their neighbours, with some fraying when they were separated.Signature on all volumes of Richard Moore (Ricardi Moore), 18th century Irish gentleman and collector. New York, London: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1896. seems to be the first UK edition, illustrated blue cloth nice and fresh, front panel stamped in off- white and silver, does not have the orange colour seen in the New York edition, frontispiece illustration, tissue guard brown-spotted, pp 12, 401, adverts at end were not included. slight bumping to corners, but no wear. Front free endpaper has been trimmed out, presumably for owner's privacy, rear endpapers foxed, text block generally clean and sound, edges not trimmed. Contains eight stories, four with a supernatural theme. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.

Ten volumes complete of this rare set, bound in calf, five raised bands, titled on spine Philosophical Transicti then numbered by volume, otherwise undecorated, bindings sound and tight but with some scuffing on leather on boards near spines, illustrated with folding copper plates, 14, 13 or 12 per volume, all complete and sound, text looks like it was never opened; pages mostly 516 per volume, plus index. Volume 1 is dated 1741, vols 2,3,4 dated 1739, vols 5,6,7 dated 1740, vols 8, 9, 10 dated 1741. The provenance is Barne Hall, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, from the library of Richard Moore, with his signature 'Ricardi Moore' on all volumes. Volume one has the extra handwritten information on front pastedown: 'Ex Libris Ricardi Moore. Pd for this and the other 9 vols £4-0-0'. During the sale, in 2012, it was explained that the library was shut away from about 1781 until the present, and some of the leather bindings became stuck… Read More
