The Amber Room was commissioned by King Frederick I of Prussia and given as a gift by Peter the Great in 1701. The Nazis disappeared with it in 1945. Famous throughout Europe as 'the eighth wonder of the world,' its vast and intricately worked amber panels were sent in 1717 by Frederick I of Prussia as a gift to Peter the Great of Russia.
