Binding very good with slight genearl wear and a little light rubbing. Contents clean and tight, minimal spotting otherwise unmarked, plates clean and bright, a couple with minimal spotting, no inscriptions. A cutting regarding this book from the Gardener's chronicle dated 1897 is tipped onto the front paste-down. Text in latin, a book intended for the enlightenment of children that examines the names and characteristic features of plants, including French translations of botanical terms. This title first appeared in 1535; but this edition includes a preface, addressed to his Charles Estienne's 8-year-old nephew, Henri Estienne. Charles Estienne was an authority on medical/herbal.botanical issues and he drew on his own knowledge when writing this book. A superb copy.. Early Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 12mo.
