The book received mostly negative or lukewarm reviews from the popular press and sparked a literary controversy regarding how, and whether, an author's work should be reworked and published after his death. JPR : given the breaks : my life in rugby [ SIGNED COPY: Best Wishes Barry, "JPR Williams". ]

By Williams, J. P. R. (John Peter Rhys) 1949- [ with Miles Harrison.

London: Hodder & Stoughton, 2006. JPR Williams won his first cap for Wales in 1969, and until his retirement in 1981 was the mainstay of Welsh teams that won six Triple Crowns, three Grand Slams and six Five Nations Championships. Renowned for his power and bravery on the pitch, JPR is a hero to the Welsh and a respected icon of the rugby world. In his autobiography, JPR recalls his childhood in Bridgend and the early signs that he was destined for sporting greatness. He showed initial promise as a tennis player, beating David Lloyd at the age of seventeen to win Junior Wimbledon, but in 1968 decided to abandon any plan of becoming a professional tennis player in order to combine his medical career with amateur rugby. That year he was selected for the Welsh tour of Argentina, and this marked the beginning of his rugby adventure. He relives his early rugby career and remembers the most exciting matches of his playing days, both for Wales and for the British and Irish Lions, including the 1971 win against the All Blacks -- the only time the Lions have ever beaten New Zealand in a series -- a team in which he was an integral player. His love of rugby was so strong that he was unable to tear himself away from the game, and played amateur rugby well into his fifties with Tondu, the Welsh junior side. xv, 256 p., [16] p. of plates : ill. (some col.) ; 24 cm. Firm clean copy, with Signature of JPR, in a very lightly handled Dust Jacket, but very good. [ Location: Landing Case ]. Best Wishes Barry, "JPR Williams". First Edition. Bridge : parity leads in Defence

By Weiss, David J.

London: Robert Hale, 1994. Summary: When the deals presented as problems in this book were played, expert players misdefended. That's hardly news. Every experienced bridge player has misdefended from time to time. Indeed, the challenge of logically assembling a winning defence is one of the main appeals of the game. Because it is hard for all of us, this is where the points are to be won. The key elements in successful defence are visualization and communication. These elements go hand in hand, and they are greatly abetted by the system of parity leads introduced in this volume. Using a concept already familiar to all bridge players, you will be able to infer crucial information about the unseen hands. You will be ready to focus on how to help partner and hinder declarer. When you succeed at the table, you and partner will experience the special joy that comes from a shared triumph. This book contains 60 examples in the popular question-and-answer format, with the spotlight on the occupant of the hot seat. Few of the problems are easy and many were not solved at the table by experts. That fact alone makes the book worth reading because players derive pleasure recalling howlers made by the master's. 181 p. figures within text. A very pleasant clean copy in a like Jacket. [ Location: BR2 / 1 ]. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8vo.

Guy Martin : worms to catch ; [ 2 Guy Martin Volumes ]

By Martin, Guy

London: Virgin, 2016. 1st Volume: 1st edition 1st impression: `I was never going to sleep in and take it easy, there were worms to catch.' In August 2015 Guy Martin crashed out of the lead of an Ulster Grand Prix superbike race held on the world's fastest racetrack. He had invasive surgery to bolt his broken spine and hand back together, and within days he decided he needed some time away from road racing. But he wasn't about to take it easy ... In his brand new book, discover how Britain's favourite daredevil fills his time when road racing is taken out of the equation. He set about breaking records on the world's biggest Wall of Death, cycling 2,745 miles across the length of the United States (while sleeping rough), attempting to be the fastest person ever on two wheels and travelling to Latvia to investigate his family's roots. There's some thrilling racing too, including wild Harley choppers on dirt and turbo-charged Transit vans through the Nevada desert. And there's the day job to get back to in North Lincolnshire - the truck yard and the butty van. 320 pages, 24 unnumbered pages of plates : illustrations, maps ; 24 cm; Includes index. 2nd Listed: This book is the Phenomenal Sunday Times No1 Bestseller. 'It was the start of the third lap of the 2010 Senior TT, the last race of the fortnight. The last chance to get a TT win for another year, and I was pushing hard. Ballagarey. The kind of corner that makes me continue road racing. A proper man's corner. You go through the right-hander at something like 170mph, leant right over, eyes fixed as far down the road as I can see. But this time something happened. This time the front end tucked ...' Guy Martin, international road-racing legend, maverick star of the Isle of Man TT, truck mechanic and TV presenter, lives on the edge, addicted to speed, thoroughly exhilarated by danger. In this book we'll get inside his head as he stares death in the face, and risks his life in search of the next high. We'll discover what it feels like to survive a 170mph fireball at the TT in 2010, and come back to do it all again. He'll sweep us up in a gritty sort of glory as he slogs it out for a place on the podium, but we'll also see him struggle with the flip side of fame. We'll meet his friends and foes, his family, his team mates and bosses and we'll discover what motivates him, and where his strengths and weaknesses lie. For the first time, here is the full story in Guy's own words. From the boy who learned to prep bikes with his dad, to the spirited team mechanic, paying his way by collecting beer glasses in pubs, to the young racer at the start of his first race and the buzz he's been chasing ever since. This thrilling autobiography is an intense and dramatic ride. Paperback, A fine unread copy: ISBN: 9780753555033, Published Virgin in 2014. 320 pages, illustrated, some colourI. Index. [ Location:BR2/1]. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
