New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1954. Mordecai Richler (1931-2001) is recognized as perhaps the finest Canadian author of the mid-20th Century. This is his first book, an uncommon title. Set in post-WWII Spain with a cast of expatriots, it has a very left-bank feel. This is a Near Fine copy of the First American Edition. Although published in the same year as the English edition, it is much less common. Black cloth binding, with spine lettering in black, red, and gilt. Some very minor wear at the edges, else Fine.
