About This Item

New York: Johnson and Ward, c, 1865. Large hand-colored map of Asia by American cartographers Johnson and Ward. One page, hand-colored. In near fine condition. Double matted and framed. The entire piece measures 21.5 inches by 19 inches. American cartographer Alvin Jewett Johnson began publishing maps of the United States in 1854 and atlases in 1860. His atlases remain important for their first-hand documentation of the expansion of the U.S., documenting the step-by-step expansion of railroads and the development of new states, counties and towns.
