Based on the 1922 murder of silent film director William Desmond Taylor. A man trying to found a motion picture company buys a studio that was used by a silent film director who was killed 20 years prior. He decides to make a movie about the events of this director's death, but soon becomes unhealthily obsessed with the case. Universal Pictures' attempt to rival the success of Paramount's "Sunset Boulevard," released the previous year.
Set in Los Angeles, California, shot on location Los Angeles, and Santa Monica, California.
