Brooks produced 23 homers and 100 RBIs on an average of .269 and was the league's fielding leader at third base with a percentage of .976. Catcher Elston Howard listes as Manager Dick Williams (jacket) discusses the situation with ace pitcher Jim Lonborg in the sixth inning. At the time, the Cards led, 4-1, with runners on first and second with none out. The situation called for a bunt but, after this conference ended, Julian Javier didn't bunt. He slugged a homer to put the Redbirds ahead 7-1. Lonborg stayed in to reture the side but left for a pinch-hitter in the last half of the sixth. The Sox lost the game 7-2.
