Baring-Gould was - amongst other things - a researcher and collector of folklore. It was this which led to him writing this book, often regarded as one of the seminal works on lycanthropy. First published in 1865, this is the Causeway 1973 edition. A lovely copy. Pages are bright and clean with no markings, inscriptions or foxing. Perhaps the very slightest of age related light tanning to page edges. DJ is unclipped and has only very minor signs of scuffing and one or two nicks. Spine is a little sunfaded. A lovely copy of Cheiro's famous Book of Numbers based on Chaldean Numerology, in a great DJ. This is the ninth impression, date unknown but probably c 1950. Pages are wonderful: the lightest of foxing spots here and there on the fore and top edge but otherwise bright and clear with no marks or inscriptions at all. FEP has slightly darkened band. Pages are tight and spine has no give. DJ is excellent: price clipped but otherwise just some small shelf and age wear here and there. DJ retains its lovely yellow colour. Reinach was a French religious historian who here looks at a range of topics around mythology and cults. Chapters include:
animal totemism; theory of sacrifice; origin and essence of taboos; tarpeia; domestication of animals; origin of prayers for the dead; art and magic. A very nice copy. Pages are clean and bright with little sporadic foxing here and there. A school library sticker is affixed on internal front board, and a couple of numbers etc exist written on FEP (see photos). McNally was a Professor of East European history at Boston College who specialised in books about horror, and researched the origins of the Dracula legend. Here he focuses on the story of Countess Elizabeth Bathory, the ancient 'vampire' of Transylvania who was reputed to have murdered hundreds of young women in the belief that their blood would keep her young. He looks to separate the known facts from the legend. A fascinating work. A really nice copy in nr Fine condition. Pages are bright and clean with no markings or inscriptions, only a very neat stamp from a previous owner on the title page. Otherwise perhaps read just once. Ronay was actually born in Transylvania and participated in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, later decorated by the new President of Hungary. He became a linguist and historian and has published works on a range of topics, including books on Dracula. The Dracula Myth was one of these, and is a scholarly work tracing the influential cult of the vampire from pagan lore down to the present day. This is the first edition. This is a former library book but in fact has many positive attributes. See photos of all points mentioned here. Pages are bright and tidy, for the most part totally clean and unmarked. Exceptions are: a small cross in biro on FEP, a brown mark on first inside page, a library number stamp on title page, and an Essex county library sticker on the rear endpaper. Dracula expert Leatherdale looks at the historical and folkloric background to the Dracula novel. He describes the rise of the vampire legend and looks at the many influences on author Stoker. A very nice copy. Pages are excellent: bright, clean, uncreased and unmarked. Cover equally good: there is a small price sticker from presumably the original bookshop on the rear cover (possibly removable). See photos

A very nice copy of the first edition of Holiday's book connecting the Loch Ness Monster with various paranormal phenomena. He also posits a link between dragon legends and UFO stories. A work with something of a cult following. Pages are very good: aside from some foxing on the top and fore edges, the actual pages are bright and clean (none of the edge foxing is present on the actual pages). No inscriptions, notes or creasing, just a minor foxing patch on the FEP (see photos). DJ is very good, price unclipped, all intact with just the most minor shelfwear, and a narrow strip of browning on the flaps. Many illustrations. An excellent copy of John Michell's first book. This is the first edition, published in the UK. In his classic writing style which was to become so well known, Michell takes his first look at the evidence for ongoing extra terrestrial life. In his usual perceptive approach he looks for current and historical evidence of aliens on Earth and what the future with them might mean. Pages are bright, clean and unmarked. No inscriptions and very little else of any issue: just the most minor age wear and the slightest scattered spotting on side and bottom text edge, and a very few light foxing marks on a very few pages. One slight point of impact below publisher name (see photo) but very minor and small. DJ is excellent: unclipped with only minor shelf wear. Boards are clean and tight. A very nice copy of Armstrong's classic work on the folklore of birds. An in depth study ably supported by a range of drawings and photographs. This is the first US edition. See all photos, all of which are of this edition for sale. Pages are clean with no inscriptions or staining, just natural reading wear and the lightest of spotting at the top edge (see photos). Cloth boards are clean, tight and intact. DJ is unclipped ( a small sticker has been placed over the original price, potentially removable) and is generally very good: some age wear at edges, some brown spotting (mainly at rear) and a little rubbing. Someone has written 'plate 5' on one of the cover images, though this is not as visible as it could be (again, see photos). A beautiful copy of this rare item, and in unusually excellent condition. This is the one-volume first UK edition published by New English Library in 1975 in London. All aspects are first rate (see photos ). The slipcase is often missing or damaged, but here it is excellent: just the vaguest sense of rubbing and slight sunning fade to spine, but totally tight, clean and intact. Book itself: pages are crisp, clean and bright: no markings, tanning or inscriptions, almost as new. DJ is complete and excellent with just the slightest edge wearing and possibly a little sunning on spine. Branston's review of the mythology of the Vikings, Angels, Saxons and Jutes and how it has impacted language, culture and later traditions. An excellent copy. Only defect is the neatest small rectangle cut from the base of the title page (see photos ) for unclear reasons but probably to cut out a stain or similar. Otherwise, pages are flawless. DJ is unclipped and intact with just some very minor chipping and wear, most evidently on the top edges and rear top, and a little at the base of the spine. A little creasing at rear top DJ. Holocaust survivor Eisler had previously studied and lectured on in history. A polymath, who wrote on mythology, comparative religion politics, astrology and many other topics. In Man Into Wolf he argues for a prehistoric variation of human violence. This is a first rate copy of the 1978 Ross-Erikson paperback edition, with a foreword by Donald Lathrop. Main text is a reprint of the original 1948 edition. Pages are almost pristine, with no markings or browning. A really nice copy. Hannen Swaffer was a British journalist and critic, and a supporter of Spritualism. Here he narrates some of his experiences among mediums. This is the first edition from 1945. Pages are clean and bright:usually this cheaper wartime paper is often marked or foxed, but not this copy where they are excellent. No inscriptions. Binding is tight. An exceedingly rare, lovely copy of the 1970 Rider/Aquarian edition (first thus) of Lewis Spence's classic book on Atlantis. With a very good unclipped dust jacket, and pages which are immaculate. Spence was a Scottish folklorist and occultist, and became well known for his works on folklore, myths, legends and the occult in general. A well educated journalist, Spence researched and wrote about a range of related themes, and while he's become seen as a forerunner to many more modern writers of this ilk, he was more serious and disciplined in his approach. He looks at Atlantis and its arcane traditions of magic, alchemy, astrology and witchcraft. Largely dismissed by some as pseudo-science, Spence's book was nevertheless an important contribution to populist occult and esoteric literature. This copy is exceptionally good. Chapters include: the ships seen on the ice; the moving coffins; the prophecies of Nostradamus, and many others. A nice copy of the 1945 reprint of the second impression.
