Description:
A self-published book of poetry, showing very little wear. Signed by the author with an inscription on the acknowledgements page. The author passed away in 2019. While an eBook version of her work is available through Barnes and Nobel, there appear to be few physical copies on the market, asking far more than I am. I have all three of her books, all listed here. (see ST06590 and ST06589) All three are signed by the author.

Description:
No dust jacket. Generally in good condition, however the fabric of the front cover has bubbled up in a few places on the front cover, perhaps from some moisture. Pages are clean, tight and unmarked. This is part of a collection of books I recently acquired that used to belong to one Gertrude Pritchard of England in the early 20th century. Her name can be found inside the front cover and in a couple other places before the title page. I have gathered all these books into a catalogue called "Pritchard Library".

Description:
This is a collection of works by G. K. Chesterton, author, poet, artist and literary and art critic. As a mystery writer, he created the Father Brown series. This book contains, as stated inside the dust jacket, "...the things you would have got from Chesterton had you been his week-end guest. There are fairy-stories with his own illustrations, comic verse, satirical ballads, caricatures of himself, an Introduction to the Study of Demonology, fantastic pictures in many colours, black and white illustrations of curious themes." This book was published two years after Chesterton's death and contains some material not previously published. The first page of the table of contents is shown in photo #9, it runs for two and a half pages. As stated, there are many illustrations in black and white and a few in color, some of which might not fit into today's politically correct world. The book shows wear at the corners, with clean and intact pages and a previous owner's nameplate on the front endpaper.…

Volume three has a slice in the fabric over the spine and Volume two has a 1.5 cm split on the top edge. Each volume has a frontispiece (photo #7 shows the one from volume six). Hinge splits (like the one shown in photo #6) have occurred in the front of volumes 1-3 and in the rear of volume 4. Small amount of water stain along the top edge is evident in volumes 5 and 6 (see photo #8). All pages are clean, tight and unmarked. Gift inscription, dated 1914, on the front endpapers of volumes 1 and 2. This set will ship at over 9 pounds, so it is not available for international shipping. This is a collection of selected passages from other Wolfe works. An image of the first page of the table of contents can be found in photo #5, the full table runs over five pages. There are a total of 71 excerpts from just four works, with the lion's share coming from Of Time and the River and Look Homeward, Angel. The book shows wear at the corners and edges, while the dust jacket shows wear just about everywhere. The pages are clean, tight and unmarked, with a former owner's name inside the front cover. Description:
Red cloth cover shows a little wear at the corners and along the edges of the spine. Decorative embossed front and back, with gilt print and decoration on the spine. There is a hinge break at the title page (see photo #4) redering the frontispiece page a little loose. All other pages appear to be tight, clean and intact. Complete with notes and indices of writers and first lines at the end of the book. There is no music for these songs, so this is effectively a book of poetry. There is no date of publication given within the book but the date of the introduction is 1897. However, the publisher was at the given address between 1907 and 1917, so the real date of publication has to be during that decade.

Description:
First edition. Signed by author inside front cover. Book shows little wear. Dust jacket has a few small tears and a little piece missing at the top of the spine. 72 pages. Vantage Press was a vanity publisher in the 1960s. The author would have paid to publish and then hoped to recoup from later sales. An ordained minister, much of Morris' poetry is religious in nature, but he opens his book with three poems about astronauts John Glenn, Scott Carpenter and Gordon Cooper.

Description:
This compact little book has lost its cover. As shown in the photos, the half-title page has also come loose. All other pages are still attached. Owner's name is on the half-title pages and the remaining pages appear clean, intact and unmarked. This is one of a number of books that belonged to Miss Gertrude Pritchard back at the beginning of the 20th century. She appears to have been a teacher at an English boarding school for boys. Somehow, over the intervening century, her library came to be in an estate sale in Seattle. Now they can be found in my catalogue called "Pritchard Library".

Description:
Cover is not badly worn for a book over 120 years old, showing mild wear along the edges and at the corners, and a bit of a dark stain to the lower front. Pages are tight and intact with just a few small margin notes. Owner's name and some notes on the front endpaper. A small stain (1 cm dia.), possibly coffee or tea, on the lower page edges, from the half-title page to about page 7 of the poem (see photo #3). The stain does not reach any print. This is Alexander Pope's peotic translationof four books of Homer's Iliad. This edition is from Macmillan's Pocket English Classics series and was originally published in 1899. This is from the third printing, May, 1900. The introduction materials cover 55 pages before the poems begin. This is a very rare book, one which I have been unable to find another like it in any of my online sources. The closest thing I found had no picture and was asking twice my price. With so many reprints, facsimiles and PODs out there, this is an original.

Description:
Green fabric cover shows substantial wear, with two corners showing the boards and wear at the head and tail of the spine. The fabric is also splitting along the lower rear edge of the spine (see photo #4). The front cover has gilt print and an embossed profile of Sir Richard. The print on the spine has lost all the gilt. The deckle-edged pages are clean, tight and unmarked, and the endpapers are intact. Hâjî Abdû El-Yezdî is a pseudonym for Sir Richard Francis Burton, the true author. His poem runs 60 pages and his accompanying notes run almost 70 more. The poem and notes were originally published in 1880. This is a rather rare volume.

This little book of poems appears to have been self-published and is signed by the author. It shows no wear other than a small spot on the back cover. In searching for comparable copies, I found just two available online. I set my price at a third less than the lower priced one. I can't say if those other two were reflecting the market for this little book or if they were just two examples of wishful thinkers. If the latter is the case, now there's three of us. Otherwise, this is a bargain compared to the market.
