Stewart of the RA was picked up at Gupis to take command of the two guns Colonel Kelly had brought from Gilgit. His account was also publisged in Proc.R.A.I. volume 22 number 8.

Publisher's green cloth with the regimental crest in gold on the front board; a handsome copy on the shelf but with noticeable foxing in the text. Almost entirely about the service of the Bombay Europeans under the East India Company and with particularly detailed coverage of the eighteenth century Anglo-French wars. Frontispiece portrait in colour, double page map of Sindh, plan of the battle of Meanee, 12 sepia lithographs including 6 views, 2 folding tables. A near fine copy in contemporary half calf gilt. Eastwick believed that the Amirs of Sindh had been betrayed by the British. As a director of the EIC, he was one of Sir Charles Napier's most bitter opponents. London: Methuen, 1906. 2 volumes. xiv and 322 pages; vii and 299 pages. 24 illustrations and maps. Publisher's decorated red cloth, spine just beginning to fade (see photo), an excellent pair. Crimea (with the Naval Brigade), Indian Mutiny, and Africa from Ashanti to the Sudan.

Kabul: Afghan Tourist Organisation, 1965. 171 pages. Folding coloured map and text illustrations. Paperback, passepartout backstrip beginning to come adrift at the base of the spine, very good otherwise.

London: Smith Elder, 1843. xxx and 575 pages.12 plates. A good copy in the publisher's salmon cloth with the regimental crest in gold on the front board and a stand of arms in gold on the spine; the headcap is chipped and there is a small tear and other minor wear to the outer hinges, but the binding is still entirely sound; the covers are slightly soiled and there is an untidy shelf reference at the base of the spine (see photo 1), there is occasional foxing, at its worst on the titlepage (see photo 4).
Perkins page 386. Brigadier Neill was killed in action at Lucknow in 1857. He has a district in Delhi and an island in the Andamans named after him. This excellent history includes a 77 page account of the regiment's part in the First Burma War.
In 1862, after the demise of the East India Company, the regiment was taken on to the establishment of the British Army as the 102nd (Royal Madras) Regiment of Fusiliers. In 1881 this regiment became the 1st Battalion of The Royal Dublin Fusiliers.

Aldershot: Gale and Polden, 1927. 2 volumes. viii and 254 pages; ix and 305 pages. 8 colour plates, 89 illustrations, 40 folding maps. 4to. A very good pair in the publisher's blue cloth with the regimental crest blocked in gold on the front boards. Perkins page 385 for the early history of the regiment when it was the East India Company's First Bengal European Fusiliers. London: Sampson, Low, Marston, 1940. xxi and 584 pages. 14 colour plates and many other illustrations. Small square 8vo. Publisher's yellow cloth slightly faded. First edition of this useful crib containing short histories of all the Indian regiments and corps with supporting chapters on the evolution of the Indian Army, its order of precedence at different dates, medals etc'.

London: without imprint, 1891. Each section separately paginated - 472 pages altogether. Frontispiece portrait and 38 zincographs. Full red leather carefully restored and sympathetically rebacked. Extremely scarce. This copy is signed and dated November 1891, Blickling Hall, Aylsham. It was presented to the Officers Library at the Depot of the Somersetshire Light Infantry, Kerr's old regiment which he led in the Mutiny.

Orpington: George Allen, 1885. v and 250 pages. Eton prize handsomely bound in vellum with gilt rules and dentelles and morocco title labels. Contemporary full diced red calf; the covers are beginning to fade and there is a little light foxing. Baird was captured by Hyder Ali in 1783 while serving in the 73rd Regiment but gained his revenge in 1799 when he stormed Seringapatam. He was second in command under Moore at Corunna. London: John Murray, 1895. xix and 269 pages. 72 plates from photographs, 21 drawings in the text, Publisher's half white and red cloth. The author travelled to Kulu with his brother Colonel St George Corbett Gore who was in charge of a Himalayan Survey party. Next year he visited the North West Frontier and travelled up the Kurram with a political officer. Excellent photographs reproduced by Messrs Brunner and Hause of Zurich.

London: Wm H Allen, 1852. xvi and 592 pages. 6 pages of illustrations of carriages and waggons, other illustrations of medals and medallions in the text. Publisher's plain red cloth, spine slightly faded and soiled, bottom corners bumped. Perkins page 426.

London: Hurst and Blackett, 1866. 2 volumes. xiii and 403 pages; x and 434 pages. 2 frontispiece portraits, 2 titlepage vignettes, plan of the siege of Bhurtpore. Handsomely bound in modern half plum calf and marbled boards, first volume titlepage slightly soiled. Stapleton Cotton served in Flanders and against Tippoo, commanded the cavalry in the Peninsula and in France, and ended his career as commander in chief in India.

London: Edward Moxon, 1836 second edition. 2 volumes. Ix and 499 pages; vii and 524 pages. Frontispiece portrait. Full black calf compartmented in gold. Scottish jurist. Judge of Bombay from 1804 to 1811. Later an MP and a historian.
