Introducing also the copious poetical epistles from head-quarters; with copious notes throughout. London: for the author, 1796 third edition. 2 volumes bound in 1. ix and 144 pages; iv and 136 pages. 2 colour plates showing uniforms of Hungarian foot soldiers, 4 other plates. Full contemporary calf; spine creased (see photo 1); one corner bumped with slight loss of leather (see photo 3); outer front hinge weak but still intact, a good clean copy. Sometimes attributed to Harry Calvert.

London: T and W Boone, 1830. xvi and 351 pages.Later half calf with cloth sides, spine rubbed. Bookplate and ownership signature of Sir Morgan Crofton, historian of the Life Guards. Rifle Brigade at Walcheren and in the Peninsula from 1810 to the end of the war.

Paris: Martinet, 1847. 14 pages and 25 pages and 19 pages. Dog-eared copy in the publisher's wrappers, covers worn; there is a sellotape mark on the second titlepage, otherwise the contents are in good condition. Extremely scarce. Not cited by Tulard. Consists of reprints of three articles by Thiebault's son Adolphe from the Spectateur Militaire for 1847. The first piece was prompted by a translation of Danilewski's account of Austerlitz and is based on his father's notes. The older Thiebault commanded the 1st Brigade of Saint-Hilaire's First Division in the capture of the Pratzen Heights and the attack on the Russian flank that followed. There are small differences with the account in Thiebault's Memoires first published by his daughter nearly fifty later. London: Henry Fisher, 1827. 600 pages. 13 engraved plates. A handsome copy in contemporary straight grain red morocco with gilt dentelles; title label missing; very good otherwise. The attractive plates include a spirited plate of the Grand Old Duke in action during one of his few victories in the Netherlands campaign (Roublaix) and a folding depiction of the funeral procession. London: Effingham Wilson, 1834. x and 126 pages. Plan of Oporto, 32 plates. Publisher's green cloth; the front cover has some damp staining though without carrythrough to the endpapers; the text and plates are good and clean and the binding is tight. Thomas Knight was a veteran of the Rifle Brigade into which he enlisted in 1812. He was working at Chatham when he was recruited for the service of the Queen of Portugal.

London: printed by Nichols and Sons, 1805. 84 pages. Publisher's boards with marbled paper spine. Record of an important test case. Eamer was appointed Colonel of the East London Militia in 1803 and endeavoured to raise the regiment to the same standard of efficiency as the rest of the army. Many of his officers objected strongly to the changes he introduced and accused him of oppressive behaviour. Bookplates of the Marquess of Headfort. Arranged in the same way as Bland's Treatise of Military Discipline and intended to serve the same purpose. Houlding pages 233-234 describes the first edition of 1782 as 'quite excellent, up to date, and timely'.

London: Henry Colburn, 1837. 2 volumes. 403 pages; ix and 396 pages. Frontispiece portrait of Napoleon. Contemporary half calf and marbled boards, compartmented spines lightly rubbed on the ribs. Tulard NBC 255.

London: T Egerton for the War Office, 1799. 7 pages and 181 pages incorporating folding muster rolls and specimen subsistence returns. 18th Century tree calf; one hinge tender, a little minor pitting and scuffing of the covers, an unusually good copy. The principal sections deal with baggage and marches, barracks, and recruiting.

London: Simpkin and Co., 1907. 24 plates (7 colour plates of uniform by Major R A Wymer). Presentation copy in full black morocco with the regimental crest in gold. Expanded from the record published in 1869 with added extracts from the Peninsular diary of Colonel James Hughes and - in full - an interminable humorous poem written by one of the subalterns in France in 1815 called 'The Hussars in Occupation.'

Paris: by J Smith at the English Press, 1802. xxxi and 286 pages. Contemporary calf a little worn; text evenly browned throughout; untidy notes on the endpapers. 'The English Press' churned out translations for British tourists in the interval of peace after the Treaty of Amiens. In line with Napoleon's new policy of trying to lure the emigres home, this book is much more sympathetic to the royalists than earlier ones like Westerman (1794) and Danican (1796). London: T Goddard, 1812. 2 volumes. xxxi and 476 pages; xiii and 496 pages. Later quarter calf, a very good pair. From the beginning of the Peninsular War to the Convention of Cintra. Paris: Magimel, 1813. Third edition. xii and 283 pages. 2 folding plates, 2 folding tables of calibres and measurements of shot. Small 8vo. Contemporary tree calf gilt. Standard artillery textbook for the Napoleonic armies. The third edition is 'revue et augmentee d'un chapitre sur les manoeuvres...par M Bigot, chef de bataillon au Corps Imperial d'Artillerie.' It is unusual to find a manual in such fine condition.
Hulot traines at the Chalons artillery school in 1794 and served throughout the French revolutionary wars. He was wounded at Saragoss and promoted chef de bataillon in 1809. With an appendix containing his plans for the defence of the country in case of invasion. Edited by his son, Sir Harry Verney.London: Hurst and Blackett, 1853. viii and 544 pages. 2 large folding general maps. Publisher's red cloth with gilt arms on the front cover, spine professionally relaid on new cloth back, minor damp staining (see photo 2) on extreme outer edges of the covers, text good and clean.

Paris: George Hurtrel, 1886 first edition. 272 pages. 4 colour plates, 6 full page text illustrations, various chapter heads and tail pieces. A fine copy in half calf and marbled boards, gilt lines and motifs on the spine. Number 50 of 100 copies on Holland paper signed by the publisher. La Tour d'Auvergne made his name on the Spanish frontier where he commanded la colonne infernale.
