A juried selection of painting and sculpture, and not surprisingly academic taste does not portent success -- Dore and Rodin were relegated to 3rd class medals, and St. Gaudens awarded honorable mention in the Sculpture Section. The Medal of Honor winner for painting, Aime-Nicolas Morot, now largely forgotten as were his American apprentice artists Foster, Bogert and Haseltine -- all in the academic style. Text by Daniel Bernard, Rene Delorme, Herni Demesse, Fourcaud Gustave Goetschy, J,-K. Huysmans, Frelix Jayher, Eugene Montrosier, Gaston Schefer, Armand Silvestere and Marius Vachon.
