Dyveke was a "commoner", the daughter of the Dutch merchant Sigbrit Willoms, who lived in Bergen in Norway. Dyveke became the mistress to Christian II of Denmark in 1507 or 1509. They met in Bergen, and Christian took Dyveke with him to Oslo, where he was regent, and to Copenhagen, when he became king in 1513. Their relationship has been the inspiration of many poets but in fact little is known about it. Kjeld Abell (1901 – 1961) was a Danish playwright, screenwriter, and theatrical designer. The volumes were printed in Vilnius, Lithuania -- a major Jewish center at the time of publication. Jean Adhémar (1908-1987) was a French librarian, academic and art historian. For a time he served as director of the Print Cabinet of the Bibliotheque Nationale. Honoré Daumier (1808 -1879) was a prolific caricaturist, painter, and sculptor, particularly known for his satirical caricatures and drawings 19th-century French politics and society.
