The 51st Again! is the story of a hard-working successful engineer combat battalion that was formed in Texas and trained in New York and England. Landing on Normandy in June 1944, the men had reached Belgium by November. There, they began sawmill operations. Then the Germans struck in the Battle of the Bulge. The 51st, called on to help stop the enemy, soon found itself holding a 40-mile front, with numerous strategic roadblocks to defend. Fighting as infantry as well as engineers in several pitched battles, elements of five divisions relieved the battalion as the Battle of the Bulge came to an end. When the American counter-offensive began, the 51st was in the forefront clearing roads and mines and bridging the Roer, the Rhine, and the Danube, among other natural obstacles to the American advance. The Chatham Press, 1933. Hardback. Signed and Inscribed by the Author on title page verso. 2nd Edition (Printing) July 1933. VERY GOOD with no marks. No dust jacket. Binding is sound.. . . . . . . Dwight Fiske (1892â€"1959) was an American nightclub entertainer and pianist noted for his saucy stories and risque recordings. He was perhaps the first entertainer to promote himself on *party records,* beginning with 78rpm releases and later on in the 33-1/3 long-playing format. He also published his stories as illustrated books. During the height of his fame in the 1930s and 1940s, he was associated mainly with the Savoy-Plaza Hotel's Cafe Lounge at Fifth Avenue and East 58th St., and the Versailles Room on East 50th St., where his midnight shows provided a popular nightcap for socialites and visiting celebrities. Fiske was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and raised there and in Boston. He briefly attended Harvard, then withdrew to study at the Paris Conservatoire. In his later nightclub routines he…

Culinary Arts Inst. / Consolidated Book Publ, 1942. Hardback. Good/no. 0x0x0. 1942 Printing - CLEAN in text. Thumb indexed. Cover has light wear and bumped corners. Binding is lightly shaken. No dust jacket . . . . Ruth Berolzheimer died in 1965 after a long and illustrious career as a “cooking and child welfare expert†(according to her obituary). She was for years the director of the Culinary Arts Institute, and the editor/author of a number of books. The American Woman's Cookbook was originally published in 1938 by the directors of the College of Home Economics of Cornell University, under the auspices of the Delineator Institute â€" and it seems that it was descended from an earlier Delineator Cookbook. The Delineator Cookbook in turn was derived from a fashion magazine called The Delineator, which was originally produced in the 1870’s by the Butterick sewing pattern company. The book contains over 10,000 recipes, and went to many printings of many editions.

Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1975. Trade Paperback. Collectible; Like New. 5x0x8. Signed by Author. 1st Edition THUS / 1st Printing (1st Harcourt Brace Paperbound Library edition - 1975) - CLEAN!! No marks. Might as well be new. Appears unread. . . . . . . . . . One year ago, I read an article about Wendell Berry in the Pough Magazine winter 2018 edition that focussed on 'staying human.' In it, Wendell Berry - with whom I was not familiar - explained "Why I am not going to buy a computer." Mr. Berry tells us he works with pen or pencil and paper. "My wife types my work on a Royal standard typewriter bought new in 1956 and as good now as it was then." Like Moses climbing Sinai to see the burning bush with his own eyes, I decided I needed to read one of his books. I started with the first, "Nathan Coulter;" read the second, "A Place on Earth;" and just finished my third, "The Memory of Old Jack." I thoroughly enjoyed each book, each chapter,…

Berkley Medallion, 1972. Mass Market Paperback. Very Good. 9th Printing - July 1972 (Berkely Medallion S2162) Owners name on 1st inside page. Binding is tight and square and spine is NOT creased. Gently read . . . . . . Going up (from Monroe, Louisiana) for glory is what Bill Russell does on a basketball court. His specialty, grabbing rebounds and blocking shots, has established him as the best defensive player in basketball history. He's the super-star of the phenomenally successful Boston Celtics. But it's not all glory. Russell is a proud and sensitive Negro and has quite a lot to say about discrimination. He says it quite candidly and warns readers that this is *...not a friendship diary.* He characterizes basketball as *... high-speed applied psychiatry,* and whether he is discussing sport or race prejudice, he speaks convincingly in a direct style. The book goes beyond the initial basketball enthusiast market and bears no relationship to the Good-Negro-Athlete-Makes-Good school of autobiography.…
