Volume is poor with much staining but complete. Article by Lady Belcher about the history of Pitcairn is what make this collectible. She authored a book about Pitcairn. She is stepdaughter of Captain Peter Heywood, one of the Bounty mutineers. She was briefly married to Edward Belcher. I found the most interesting article in magazine to be "Bowery, Saturday Night." A vivid depiction of doings in New York. An image of the table of contents is provided. There is likely to be an article of interest for nearly everyone. Interior has ownership marking of 1915 but no other writing, some occasional smudges. Pages are supple and the quality of paper is excellent. A very scarce World War I pamphlet. WorldCat locates 5 copies (OCLC: 42964759). None for sale at time of listing. American author goes into Germany to report. He learns the German people seem not at all put out by war and show all signs of thriving. He is likewise impressed by their efficient military. Notes: Fine Books did not publish anything in 2009 (it was a tough year) then came back with this in early 2010. Their website now calls this the 2009 Compendium. Under the various numbering systems this should be #37 (not 47) or 8.0 neither of which actually exist. For the terminally curious and/or confused I have prepared a short summary of the publishing history of this magazine that explains everything and is available upon request. Overall condition is Very Good: primary condition issue is sun fade to front board and spine. Gutters showing front and back but all is holding together and only slightly tender. Interior is excellent. Gift inscription on half title dated 'Jan./99' along with prior bookseller's pencil note. Complete as issued with all blanks, 8 illustrations and folding map. Notes: True 1st UK editions are dated on title page 1898 by Smith, Elder & Co., London. Those without dates on title page are later issues. The 1st US edition is Appleton dated 1899 on title page.
